the beginning of the end

Bless cookies. The auto-fill lets me know when I've used a title or not for diaryland entries.

I hate the first day of each quarter - good thing I'll only have to do it once more after this. It's just going over information in the syllabus that I can very well read for myself. I did get into college, didn't I? I didn't think that it could possibly get worse, and yet it did. For micropolitics with Schonfeld (yeah, I left a lower-division introductory class until the end), it was an hour and a half of pure drivel. I wanted to get up and leave, and only the words "major requirement" kept me.

I will have so much respect for the professor that actually begins lecture on the first day.

For some reason, I'm so tired at the end of today. And to think, it's only going to get worse from here on out, not better. I suppose it still takes some adjusting to transition from lazy summer days to school. I wanted this schedule.

Funny, classes were shorter because of the walkout, we ended travel team early, and I got back from going to South Coast Plaza with Tom no later than 9 pm.

And yet I'm so tired.

Tom and I had a great time at SCP. I came home feeling so accomplished and joyful - so out of character. We first went to an event at Ted Baker where they were giving out free cocktails, food and gift bags. All the drinks were gin-based, so it was with much to my chagrin that Tom dragged me away.

He wanted to run to a couple of diamond stores before they closed for the night to shop for his fiancee. We look nothing alike so there was no mistaking me for a sibling. The entire time, they thought I was the "lucky" girl and kept winking at me, which I forgave each time I accepted a cookie or champagne. I basically want to dress up and hit up all the diamond stores in SCP one day, getting tipsy and full off of their hospitality. Tonight I had to tuck my skull-print flats underneath all the tables and carry myself with confidence, despite wearing a t-shirt and high-waisted shorts.

We ran around to our usual spots (Club Monaco, Zara, Banana Republic) before swinging by Ted Baker one last time to snag free gift bags. The girl at the door sneered and told us that they were out, but luckily a friend came out and gave us two after Tom made a mild scene.

Let me tell you, these bags are jackpot. Really. I'll estimate them with my amateur mind at over $700. $150 sunglasses (Tom checked retail price on Google as soon as we got home), $500 teeth whitening treatments, certificates for Shu Uemura, Morton's Steakhouse, and free yoga or pilates classes, etc. I don't wear designer sunglasses. I had two diet cokes and a coffee today, so teeth be damned. The only thing I've ever wanted from Shu Uemura was a kabuki brush, and only during my weird phase when I thought it was an honor to be a geisha. I'm vegetarian. Finally, I was once told that I was the second worst in yoga class.

Key concept, though: FREE.

Capped off the night with what else but pearl tea instead of a proper dinner. We exchanged gifts we got for each other over the summer, then he dropped me off at home since I can't drive for a week.

Oh, it should also be noted that he's my TA again, for Religion and World Politics this quarter.

Yes, all quite normal.
