cigarettes and alcohol

In the middle of a mild argument about where the nursery was on MacArthur Blvd, my mom dropped a bomb.
"I was vacuuming your room and I found a lot of liquor."
Good thing I wasn't driving (Donny was), else I might've crashed the car.
After New Year's, there were a couple of bottles of tequila, one handle of gin, one of vodka, and some beers leftover. The morning that I had to leave for Irvine after winter break was over, I was in such a hurry/fail so much at life that I left the entire bag of it in the middle of my room on the floor. Out in the open. Fantastic.
I sort of remember telling Donny to hide it when he came home for spring break, but apparently he hadn't. It's actually a wonder that she didn't find it before.
I didn't know how to explain it. How could you? Sure, I'm turning 21 in two months, but my parents expect me to drink at most a glass of wine with dinner or a beer when it's anything fried.
"Hard stuff like vodka! And so much of it!"
I wonder what my dad and mom said while they discussed it - I'm sure they did. They probably thought I'm an alcoholic. It's probably what prompted this sudden visit from my mom.
I've tried to instill trust in her over and over again, but she'll never know just how good I am. I spread positive rumors about myself to my brothers and sister, knowing that it will get back to my mom. Hopefully she believes them. I tell them that it's pathetic and depressing, really, my utter inability to get a boyfriend. She doesn't need to worry about me marrying a white man. I can't even get anyone to commit two weeks with me, much less the rest of our lives.
Guess all my hard work is out the window. I'll bet she's seriously considering pulling me back to Milpitas.
It didn't help that she was cleaning the apartment, and came in from the balcony saying:
"WHO'S KOOL MENTHOLS ARE THOSE?!"
Great, I threw away Ryan's many Camel Crushes but forgot the Kool menthols that Amber had left sitting on the air conditioning unit.
Eek.
I'm a good kid, I swear. Someone believe me!
